Good Afternoon Everyone!

I hope you had a wonderful night! Tomorrow is a day 1 (Gym and Music). Please bring your gym clothes and gym shoes to school, as well as your instruments.

As per last year, this year I will be using an App called Remind. Through this App I will send updates about important class information, as well it is a simple way to communicate if your child will be away or have any questions about homework. Simply download the Remind App and join my classroom using the link below. Please sign up by Friday, September 13th

The last page of the Family Handbook and September hot lunch payments are due by Friday, September 13thOur Terry Fox Run will also be taking place Friday, September 13th. Students are encouraged to come to school in their SJA gym uniform. Don’t forget about those pledges!! I will be accepting pledges all week long!! We are also encouraging all students to bring a ‘Toonie for Terry’ and are asking that students come to school dressed in their SJA gym pants/shorts along with their house coloured gym shirt. If students do not own a house t-shirt, they may wear their regular gym shirt.

Thursday, September 19th is our SJA and Oakwood Welcome Back BBQ, which will take place from 4:00-5:30 PM out in our back recess area. Order forms have been sent home. Please return, along with cash, no later than Friday, September 13th.

Inquiry into Language

Today in language we continued on our Percy Jackson novel. Students worked on questions #5-10 comprehension questions. If it was not completed today in class, it is for homework. Some students began to read chapter 2. If the reading was not completed in class it is also homework.

Inquiry into Mathematics

Today in math we learned how to read and describe large numbers. From the right to the left, each group of 3 place values is called a period. Within each period, the digits of a number are read as hundreds, tens, and ones.

We can write numbers in 3 forms:
- Standard form: 3 159 119
- Expanded form: 3 000 000 + 100 000 + 50 000 + 9000 + 100 + 10 + 9
- Number-word form: 3 million 159 thousand 119

Thank you to Laura for introducing us to a fun game we played in class today! A number was put on the board and the teacher called out if it was either expanded, standard or number-word form and the students had to write it out on the board correctly to win. Ask me how fun it was!

Unit of Inquiry

Today in UOI students drew pictures and labeled them to describe the three states of matter. Then students completed a circle the correct state of matter worksheet. Check out some of our awesome work below!

Today we also visited our new Reading Buddies that we will continue to read to and read with for the rest of the year... Ms. Hughes's class!! We cannot wait to see them again!
