Good Afternoon Everyone!

I hope you had a wonderful day! A kind reminder there is no school tomorrow or on Monday, April 22nd. Tuesday is day 3 (Library). Please bring your devices to school on Tuesday and for the rest of the week as we are working on our biodiversity summative.

Thank you to a student who brought in a smartie Easter treat for each student. Unfortunately, on the label it says it may contain tree nuts so students were unable to eat it at school. Therefore, the treat has been sent home with students and is to be eaten at parent(s) discretion.

On Tuesday we have Earth colours dress up (blues, browns and greens)/ bake sale and casual day/ bake sale on Wednesday. If you are not participating in these days then please wear your summer uniform when we return from easter weekend on Tuesday, April 23rd!

Wine and Cheese Event: SJA will be holding a wine and cheese for all parents to attend on Friday, April 26th from 6-8 PM. This will be a great time to socialize and hear about the direction SJA will be heading. Please RSVP to Ms. Hughes-Smith at bsmith@stjudesacademy.com!

A message from some of the Grade 6 Exhibition groups:

Donate to people who are homeless

Hi!!, Our names are Mona, Joana, and Shivam.

We are doing a project called Exhibition where we choose a topic we are interested in and want to research more about in order to make a positive difference in our world. We chose the topic of homelessness because we do not want anyone to be without their basic needs. Every person has the right to have a home and food to eat and clothing to wear.
We are collecting donations so that we can donate them to Angela’s Place, a homeless shelter right here in Mississauga.
You can donate:
  • Non perishable food
  • Clothing (for all ages such as Pants, shirts, hats ,shoes and more)
  • Toiletries (mouthwash, feminine products, toothpaste, toothbrush, and deodorant)
  • Seasonal clothing
  • Baby formula
  • Diapers
  • Baby products

Reason why we are doing this= Our plan is to help people who are homeless who need food and clothing and any other useful materials. After collecting these materials, we are going to donate all these items to a shelter called “Angela's Place” (45 Glenn Hawthorne Blvd, Mississauga, ON L5R 4J9).

Thank you so much for making the world a better place!

Please bring items to Ms. Jaskolka's class (Room 30) by Tuesday, April 23rd! Thank you in advance for your donations!

Silent dance forms have been sent home. If you would like to attend, please fill out the permission form and bring in $20 (Cash only please). Forms and money are due Tuesday, April 23rd.

Some teachers from Oakwood came to show us a presentation on Autism.

Easter Spirit House Game

Inquiry into Language

Today in language we wrote spelling test #27 and we had our literature circle meeting.

Due dates for Hatchet:
Chapters 1-3 due Friday, March 29th
Chapters 4-6 due Friday, April 5th
Chapters 7-9 due Friday, April 12th
Chapters 10-12 due Thursday, April 18th
Chapters 13-15 due Friday, April 26th
Chapters 16-19 will be a culminating activity with due date to be announced.

Inquiry into Mathematics

Today in math we learned about rotations. A rotation is when a figure turned about (around) a fixed point, called the turn centre. For example, if you have the point A (2,7) and you rotate it a 3/4 clockwise turn about (6,7), your new point will be A' (6,3). After a rotation, a figure and its image are congruent (same size and shape but not always same orientation), may face different ways, and are the exact same distance from the turn point.

In class we worked on a couple questions together, then students worked independently on two questions to practice rotations.

Points to Remember:

A translation is when a figure slides from one place to another. For example, if you have the point A (5,3) and you translate it four squares right and one square down, the new point will be A' (9,2). We say 'A prime' and write A’ when referring to the points on the new image. Remember when a figure is translated, all of the points are translated by the same value

A reflection is when a figure is reflected in the mirror line (a line in which a figure is reflect) to create a congruent image. After a reflection, a figure and its image are congruent (same size and shape but no always the same orientation, usually faces opposite ways, and are the exact same distance from the mirror line.

Unit of Inquiry

Today we had our Scientist in the School Workshop. We learned about various species and examined them under the microscope. We will continue working on our UOI summatives on Tuesday. For this summative students will research a species of their choice and create a podcast to inform the rest of us about the species they chose. It may be an audio or video podcast. The podcast is due on Friday, April 26th.

Our final unit of the year will be about coding. All students will be required to have a working laptop, not device, for this unit. They will be expected to bring it to school each and every day. Students will also be expected have their own email account. A Gmail account is preferred, as we can easily share our projects. Our coding unit begin on Monday, April 29th.
