I hope everyone had a wonderful night. Monday is day 6 (Gym, Music and French). Please bring in your gym clothes and gym shoes. Also on Monday, January 14th we will begin writing our speeches. So please make sure you have ALL of your research for Monday.
Re-registrations packages have been sent home. All completed forms are due back no later than February 11th, 2019, in order to save your spots.
Inquiry into Language
Today in language we continued reading Shannen and the Dream for a School. We read chapter 3 as a class and then students wrote a one page summary on chapters 1-3. If not completed in class it is for homework. Once speeches are over we will continue reading the novel in class and start our literacy circle for this novel. We also had some time to continue practicing our typing. Today we completed 30 levels as a class. Great job Grade 5's
Persuasive speeches - we will be beginning our persuasive speech writing next week. We will have roughly four weeks to write and memorize our speeches. The first week will be spent completing a guided writing persuasive speech. The weeks to follow will consist of editing, revising and memorizing.
Typing Practice
Writing Chapter 1-3 Summaries
Inquiry into Math
Today we began lesson 1 of our probability and data management unit. We learned how to properly interpretate data. We learned how to find information in bar, circle and pictographs. If not completed in class math lesson 1 is due on Monday. We had some extra time today in math so we played a new game called back 2 back. In this game two people have their backs to one another and write a number on the board, the caller out uses both of the numbers to create a new sum either using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The person to call out what operation was used first, wins! See below
These two units are both short units and it is looking like our Data Management math test will take place on Monday, January 21st and our Probability test will take place on Friday, February 1st. There will be no review for Data Management, as students will be conducting their own survey and graphing the results.
Back 2 Back
Unit of Inquiry
Today in UOI we continued to learn about the respiratory system. Students completed two activity worksheets. The first worksheet students had to unscramble words using the clues given to them. The second activity we read information as a class then students used the information given to fill in the blanks 'Catch Your Breath' worksheet. Please review your notes on the respiratory system thus far over the weekend. Also, students are asked to create a smoking poster based on activity 4 in their UOI duotangs about our respiratory system.
