Inquiry into Technology: today in technology we continued our typing. Today we learned the letters 's, l and a', as well as ';'. They also practiced the home row with their right hand. They love practicing typing!
Next, they had French with Mme. Rawan.
Following French we had Inquiry into Math: we took up yesterdays mini review on composite and prime numbers.

After recess and lunch, we had Inquiry into Math: today we learned mental math and how to regroup compatible numbers. Compatible numbers are numbers that are easy to compute. Students worked on questions 1acd, 2def, 4 and 5 in their textbooks. Lesson 7 in there MMS duotangs is for homework.
- Addition: 60+35+40= (60+40) + 35
= 100 +35
= 135
- Subtraction: 687 – 464 = 223 (6-4=2, 8-6=2 and 7-4=3).

Inquiry into Language: today students independently read Chapter 4 of Percy Jackson. After students finished reading Chapter 4, they worked on answering the comprehension questions that went along with the Chapter.
** International Day is upon us. This year our class will be researching ITALY. We will be beginning our research and rough copies next week. Groups will be assigned tomorrow. Please bring in research (Internet or books from the library) for Monday.

Unit of Inquiry: today we learned about physical and chemical changes. Students read pages 24-25 in their UOI duotangs. Then students wrote down their own definition and an example of chemical and physical change. Next as a class we watched a video on physical and chemical change.

Important dates/items:
The first Grade 5 extra curricular activity is upon us. They will be going to a golf range on Wednesday, October 3. Permission forms have been sent home and are due back on Monday, September 24th. There is no cost, as it has been included in the tuition. Our Terry Fox event is just around the corner. This is an annual event here at SJA. As we have done every year, we are asking donations. Pledge sheets have been sent home, and will be due by Wednesday, September 26th. The class with the highest amount of money collected will win an ice cream party! Thank you in advance for your donations!
**Please note that students doing any after school activity, soccer, karate, yoga, etc. will be charged until 4:00 PM in aftercare, when they will be dismissed to their program with their coach!**
October hot lunch can now be ordered. The site will close on September 26th at 3:00 PM, so please get your orders in before then, as the site cannot be re-opened. October hot lunch payments are due by October 10th. Please ensure you are ordering under the correct grade and teacher.
Caribou Math Contest is an online mathematics contest that is held 6 times per year. Last year we did a trial run with a few students from Grade 6 and above. This year we are going to offer it to students in Grades 3 and up. This is something that will be done on a student’s own time. This will not be a focus of our math program. That being said, Dr. Kaur and Mr. Lee-Guide have offered to run a math club on Wednesday morning beginning at 8:00 AM for those who are interested. There is a $15 annual fee that must be paid and the test times begin at 7:15 AM. Committed students will write the tests on:
