Inquiry into Mathematics
Today in math we focused on adding fractions. When adding fractions if you have to like denominators you keep the denominators the same and then add the numerators together. For example 1/3 + 2/3 = 3/3 or 1 whole. If the denominators are not the same then we have to find a common denominator For example, 2/4 + 4/8 = ?. You need to multiply the 4 to make the denominator 8. Thus, 4x2= 8. Therefore, we can now add the fractions 2/8 + 4/8 . Then you simply add your numerators. thus 2 + 4 = 6. So, your final answer is 6/8.

Points to remember
Equivalent fractions are fractions with different numerators (top number) and denominators (bottom number) that represent the same value or proportion of the whole.
To find an equivalent fraction with a greater numerator and denominator, multiply the numerator and denominator by the same number. For example, 5/12 = 10/24 (2 x 5 and 2 x 12) and 25/60 (5 x 5 and 5 x 12).
To find equivalent fractions with a lesser numerator and denominator, divide the numerator and denominator by the same number. For example, 24/60 = 4/10 (24/6 and 60/6). When we find an equivalent fraction by dividing, you simplify the fraction. 24/60 = 4/10 = 2/5 (4/2 and 10/2). This is the simplest form as the only factor into both 2 and 5 is 1.
An improper fraction is a fraction in which the numerator (top number) is greater or equal to the denominator (bottom number). Example 22/10. A mixed number fraction is numbers that entail both a integer (whole number) and a fraction. Example 2 wholes and 2/10. We learned that to convert a mixed number fraction to an improper fraction you must multiply the whole number by the denominator, and then add the numerator. ** The denominator will always remain the same**. To convert an improper fraction into a mixed number you must divide the numerator by the denominator.
Unit of Inquiry
Today we will explore vertebrates. Vertebrates are animals who have a Skelton on the inside of their body. For example a bird. Today we will read information about vertebrates and students will complete a vertebrate study. If students do not complete it in class it is for homework over the weekend.

Gym - Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 1:30-2:00pm.
Aujourd’hui c’est vendredi, le 27 mars 2020
Today, students will do their online learning on Discord. Beginning next week, we will join “SeeSaw and Zoom”. We want to improve our interaction in French and facilitate the way to submit written assignments.
Please continue to practice on the worksheets sent; write your questions or concerns on Discord or to my SJA account sjimenez@stjudesacademy.com
Stay safe! 🌈“S’EN SORTIR, SANS SORTIR” 🌈

Todays Physical Activity Challenge: Crab Walk Carry Challenge
- Your challenge for today is to carry something on your belly from one side of your house or yard to the other while crab walking! Try to choose something unique and interesting to carry on your stomach and keep your stomach flat as you do the crab walk. If you choose something that is too easy, do it again with something a little more challenging! Remember to record yourself and send me the video to prove you’ve done it! Also don’t forget you need to be filling out your activity tracking sheet every day! At the end of the day you will need to scan or take a picture of your activity tracker and send it to me either on Discord or by email at torr@stjudesacademy.com. Make sure that it is fully signed by your parent or guardian.
Todays learning goal: Students will demonstrate the ability to make and use a plan when preparing a healthy meal.
- Reminder that you should have found and eaten 3 healthy snacks and sent me pictures this week already. Today, you will need to help make a full healthy meal and send me a picture with a description of how it is healthy and why you chose to make it. This meal can be breakfast, lunch or dinner. You should have been planning this meal already so use your plan. Don’t forget to send me a recipe with your picture and healthy description!
