Practicing for the big day tomorrow!

Inquiry into Mathematics
Today we began our lesson by creating rectangular prisms with linking cubes. We learned how to illustrate objects. We found that when you use linking cubes to construct your figure it makes it easier to illustrate. When we illustrate objects on dot paper it is called an isometric drawings.

As of now we are aiming to have our unit test for Tuesday, November 19th.

Constructing a rectangular prism

Steps to make an isometric drawing

Points to Remember
Acute Angle is less than 90°
Right Angle is 90° exactly
Obtuse Angle is greater than 90° but less than 180°
Straight Angle is 180° exactly
Reflex Angle is greater than 180°
Full Rotation is 360° exactly

Here is a video on how to calculate a reflex angle:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBOeW6fgYd8

A regular figure has sides that are all equal and all angles are equal. An irregular figure has sides and angles of any length and size. Convex Polygons have angles less than 180 degrees, and concave polygons have at least one reflex angle.

To construct figures you always need to use a ruler and protractor. An angle is identified by 3 letters the middle letter indicates the vertex of the angle. For example, angle A is also angle CAB.

Unit of Inquiry

Today we learned about the history of the Greek vase. We learned that the vase represents things that were important to the Ancient Greeks. For our art component this term students will be creating their own Greek vase. We completed the rough copy as well began on the background. Tomorrow we will complete the rest of the steps

For our Ancient Civilizations summative students will be recreating an ancient artifact from one of the civilizations we studied. More information to come closer to the end of the unit!
