December Lunches
The lunch site is now open
It will close Wednesday, November 20th at 3:00pm
Special of the month: Spaghetti and Meatballs which is available every Friday.
All payments are to be made through quickbooks by December 6th.
The next Caribou Contest takes place on Wednesday, November 13th, 2019. Participants are to arrive at 7:15 am for a 7:30 am start. Bring a charged device, preferably a laptop, iPad or Tablet. You have one hour to write the test.
This month’s test includes an interactive question. The interactive question will differ by grade: Tangram for Grades 2 to 4, Chomp for Grades 5 to 10, and finally a GeomeTree construction involving triangles for Grades 11/12. You can practice these now on Caribou’s Games page. Let Caribou know if you have any problems with the games.Caribou strongly recommends familiarizing yourselves with these games before the contest. Because certain games pages can be used to solve the questions, these will be blocked from Tuesday morning, November 12th, (start of the contest in the far East) to Thursday evening, November 15th at 8 pm EST.
For Grades 3 to 12, there will be a history question about Emmy Noether. Students in these grades should read the relevant section of Caribou’s History page in your preferred language to prepare.

Book Fair:
Polar Expressions is back again this year and they are looking for students to have the chance to publish poems and short stories in an upcoming book. Information sheets have been sent. Students who are interested in this competition can do so on their own time, as class time will not be given. The deadline for poems is November 29th and the deadline for short stories is December 6th
Today we had our Internet Safety presentation! Thank you to Peel Regional Police for coming in and educating us on how to be safe on the Internet and about cyber bullying.
Our Christmas Concert is fast approaching! We will be doing a hip hop dance to 'Deck the Hall' Today was our first rehearsal! Thank you to Ms. Lauren for helping choreograph our dance!
Inquiry into Language
Today we continued to work on our narratives about an inanimate object. Students wrote a rough copy in class and worked toward completing their good copy. Tomorrow we will write our OWA Post-Assessment.
Inquiry into Mathematics
After marking this weekends math homework most students struggled with the concepts, so we went over how to construct figures as well as corrected homework. We also watched a video how to help us construct triangles. For todays lesson we learned how to find nets of 3D objects. First in table groups students had nets of objects and they cut them out. Then they had to construct the figure, figure out if it is a net or not, and name it. We also watched a video to help us!

As of now we are aiming to have our unit test for Tuesday, November 19th.
Triangular prism
Not a net since there is a piece missing
Points to Remember
Acute Angle is less than 90°
Right Angle is 90° exactly
Obtuse Angle is greater than 90° but less than 180°
Straight Angle is 180° exactly
Reflex Angle is greater than 180°
Full Rotation is 360° exactly
Here is a video on how to calculate a reflex angle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBOeW6fgYd8
A regular figure has sides that are all equal and all angles are equal. An irregular figure has sides and angles of any length and size. Convex Polygons have angles less than 180 degrees, and concave polygons have at least one reflex angle.
To construct figures you always need to use a ruler and protractor. An angle is identified by 3 letters the middle letter indicates the vertex of the angle. For example, angle A is also angle CAB.
