Inquiry into Mathematics

Today in math we focused on adding fractions. When adding fractions if you have to like denominators  you keep the denominators the same and then add the numerators together. For example 1/3 + 2/3 = 3/3 or 1 whole. If the denominators are not the same then we have to find a common denominator  For example, 2/4 + 4/8 = ?. You need to multiply the 4 to make the denominator 8. Thus, 4x2= 8. Therefore, we can now add the fractions 2/8 + 4/8 . Then you simply add your numerators. thus 2 + 4 = 6. So, your final answer is 6/8.

Unit of Inquiry

Today in UOI we watched a short clip to understand further what biodiversity is and students took notes. Then in table groups students worked on an activity where we learned to classify living and non-living things. Students created a list of non-living and living things they saw in the picture at the zoo. After students completed their lists we had a class discussion about living and non-living things. Then we completed another activity where students learned more about what living organisms need for survival which are air, water, food, and shelter.
