Good Afternoon Everyone!

I hope everyone had a terrific night! Today we finally got outside to enjoy all of the white fluffy snow! Monday is day 3 (Top 6 students for speeches- 2 from each class).

Reminder please do not order lunch on the following days – February 20th (second ski trip), March 7th (third ski day) and March 27th (Legislative Assembly field trip)

A note from Ms. Melissa regarding re-registration packages - Just a friendly reminder that re-registration packages are due no later than Monday, February 11.  After this time, spots will be opened up to the public and your child will not be guaranteed a space for next year.  We look forward to seeing back for next year! **If we are the first class to have all registration forms returned we will have a pizza party and movie afternoon the Friday before March Break. Drinks and treats will be included!!** Lets get those forms in Grade 5's!! It can be a very fun day!

A kind reminder that all students must wear proper winter items for recess; this includes coat, hat, mittens, scarf, snow pants and boats. If students do not come to school with these items they will still be asked to go outside, so please come prepared!

A note regarding speeches – Due to our growing population at SJA, this year poems/stories/speeches will be split into two days. On Thursday, February 7th, JK-Grade 2 will recite their poems and stories and on Friday, February 8th, Grade 4-8 will recite their speeches.

The Grade 5 team sent home a notice regarding our field trip to The Legislative Assembly of Ontario in Toronto on Wednesday, March 27th. The cost of the trip is $7 per student. Please return permission form by March 6th. ** Please do not order hot lunches for this day. Unfortunately, you will not be reimbursed and lunches will not be saved on this date**

Today we had our Jump Rope for Heart assembly. Nicole from Heart and Stroke taught us the importance of keeping our heart and brain healthy. She told us that the best activity to keep our heart healthy is to skip, thus is why SJA will be participating in Jump Rope for Heart on Thursday, February 14th. As a class, we have set our personal goal at $200. That is just $12.50 per person. Our school goal is $2500. Students should not be going door to door rather should be asking friends and family. A form was sent home on how to set up an online account to fundraise and what prizes you can earn through raising money! Remember if you fundraise online you win bonus prizes!! Thank you in advance for your donations!

Our class has raised $215!!! Keep up the great work Grade 5's

A message from Mrs. Hayward: Our book fair will be taking place during the week of February 4th to 8th.

Unit of Inquiry

Today we used our UOI time to practice our speeches for Monday.

Inquiry into Language

Today students had a chance to get feedback on the presentation of their speeches so they can practice over the weekend. A reminder that on Monday, February 4th we will be selecting the top 6 Grade 5 students (2 from each class) for the oral competition on Friday, February 8th.

** I apologize I did not get a chance to take pictures of speeches as we had to get through all students today so we were very busy!! I will take pictures on Monday

Inquiry into Mathematics

Since the students have worked so hard on their tests all week we played Kahoot - Data management and probability. Then students had the chance to play math games on their own devices. I have marked and sent home our data management and probability test. Please look over it and return back to school on Monday. If their are any questions regarding the test, please feel free to send me an email.
