Good Afternoon Everyone!

I hope you had a great evening! Tomorrow is a day 2 (Science Fair and House Tie Day). Students must wear their full school day uniform (house tie, vest, blazer, dress shirt, pants, navy blue socks and black shoes). Please no house hoodies for Science Fair presentations.

A kind reminder about Science Fair. Science Fair is tomorrow. Students will be presenting their projects to the judges. They will have 2 minutes to present and have one minute for questions from the judges. Students are welcome to bring their experiment in as long as it is small enough to fit in their assigned spot for presentations. Please join us to view our Science Fair projects at 2:30pm. I hope to see all of you tomorrow!

Hot lunch orders for December are now available. The website will close on Friday, November 30th at 3:00pm sharp! This months special is spaghetti and meatballs. Please make sure if you are planning a vacation to not order on the days your child will be away from school.

School photos have been sent home. If you would like to order photos they must be filled out and handed in by Thursday, November 22nd.

Unfortunately Book fair has been postponed until the first week on February. I will update my blog closer to the date.

Inquiry into Mathematics

Today in Math we learned how to construct figures. We learned how to construct different figures with various angles, side measurements, how to properly read angles and measurements. We also learned that you can use two shapes to create new shapes. Students worked on textbook questions and some started on their homework.

Our next unit, Geometry, is a short one…there is only 5 lessons. It is looking like the test for Geometry will take place on Friday, November 23rd.

Points to Remember:
An acute angle is less than 90 degrees. A right angle is 90 degrees and takes the shape of an L. An obtuse angle is greater than 90 degrees. A straight line is 180 degrees and makes a straight line. A reflex angle is an angle that falls between 180 and 360 degrees.

In order to measure a reflex angle, you measure the angle below the 180 degree straight line. Then you add up the numbers. For example, if the angle measures 13 degrees, then 13 + 180 = 193 degrees.

When constructing a reflex angle you need to do the opposite. You take the angle measurement and subtract it from the 180 degree straight line. That angle will tell you how to draw it. For example, 205 – 180 = 25 degrees. Using the 180 degree line, measure the 25 degree angle and draw it.

regular figure has all equal sides and equal angles.
Irregular figures do not have all equal sides or equal angles.
scalene is a triangle that has NO equal sides or equal angles.
An isosceles is a triangle with two equal sides and two equal angles.
An equilateral is a triangle with all equal sides and angles.

Inquiry into Language

We practiced for our Christmas concert and practiced for Science Fair tomorrow.

Unit of Inquiry

Today we went back and completed an activity about the Greek gods and goddesses. Once students completed that we practiced for Science Fair tomorrow. I also allowed students to study for their French test before French class.

It is hard to believe, but we are nearing the end of our second Unit of Inquiry. For our summative, students will be required to recreate an ancient artifact from one of the three civilization we learned about. An information package and rubric will be sent home sometime next week. We will begin our in-class summative on Monday, November 19th and the due date will be Thursday, November 29th. A kind reminder that all work is to be completed during class time only, unless other wise stated.
