Good Afternoon Everyone!

To start our day we had Inquiry into Technology: Students learned how the find the home row on their keyboards (by feeling for the little bump on j and f), then students learned the letters ‘f’ and ‘j’. Once students became familiar with these letters we moved onto ‘d’ and ‘k’. They had a bunch of fun! 

** Reminder: If possible please bring a keyboard with iPads, as the website does not work with most iPads (the keyboard does not show up). Today some students shared as their iPad did not work.

Next was French with Mme. Rawan

Inquiry into Math: Today was our first Math lesson of the year. We worked on exploring one million. We practiced word problems. E.g. if there were 10 words per page in a dictionary, how many page word it take to list 1 million word. Answer: 10 divided by 1 million =100,000. Please see below some of our problems. We worked on questions 1,4 and 7 in the textbook. 

Inquiry into Language: Today we started our new novel study: Percy Jackson and the Lighting Thief. I started with reading the first couple of pages and then gave some students a chance to read aloud.

Unit of Inquiry: We joined Mrs. Hocevar's and Mr. Conte's class for a couple of experiments. First Joshua from Ms. Hocevar's class showed the Grade 5's the experiment he made at home (the balloon), made of vinegar and baking soda. Secondly, we put an ice cube in cold water and one in hot water to see which one melted faster. Lastly, we lit a tea bag on fire and within seconds it turned into dust. It was so cool!
