I hope you had a lovely weekend! Tomorrow is Day 2 (Music, French and Gym). Please bring your gym clothes and shoes to school. Tomorrow is Popcorn day! Also, tomorrow is our Autism Awareness Day.
What is Blue for $2?
- Across the world, schools are participating in Autism Awareness Day where wearing the colour blue celebrates inclusiveness, understanding and acceptance.
- Wearing blue is in support of those who are on the Autism Spectrum. Donating a toonie provides you with the opportunity to wear blue on April 2nd to support Oakwood and everyone on the Autism Spectrum and their families.
Why is Blue for $2 important?
- Wearing blue on World Autism Awareness Day shows your support and raises awareness of how we all should care about everyone on the Autism Spectrum.
What is Autism?
- Autism impacts the way individuals communicate, understand other people and learn
- Their senses are effected – either over stimulated or under stimulated (e.g., busy places might be really overwhelming or certain clothes might be uncomfortable)
- As a result their emotional, social, developmental skills are impacted
What will the funds go towards?
- All funds raised during Autism Awareness Month go towards much needed sensory equipment and other learning tools to support our student’s developmental needs.
We have extended the deadline for the class trips. If you collect $40 from friends and family members you can attend our field trip to Scooter's to go roller skating, which will be held on April 12! Today in language students wrote their spelling words in their agendas and had time to work on spelling lesson #25 . Then, students read chapters 4-6 and started working on their role for this week. As is it a very busy and hectic week, after today students will need to work on their literature circles at home and due on Friday. Regards to spelling, students will have to complete lesson #25 at home due on Wednesday. We also prepared for our student-led conferences that will take place on Thursday.

Textbook Work
Unit of Inquiry
Today in UOI we read a couple pages about leaves and learned that leaves need sunlight, water, and air to survive. We also read and learned about the characteristics of trees. We learned about the different types such as: coniferous and deciduous. Unfortunately, since there is snow on the ground we could not go outside to do our activity on animals, plants and other living things we find on and around trees. We will try to get outside this week to look further into trees. Instead, we used our prior knowledge to come up with animals, plants, and other living things that live in trees.
