I hope you had a great snow day! Tomorrow is day 5. Tomorrow is our Valentine’s Spirit Day. Students are welcome to dress in Valentine’s Day clothing and colours. It is also our Jump Rope for Heart, so please do your best to bring in your donations and pledges. Students will be required to wear their gym shoes for Jump Rope. SJA Parent Guild will also be hosting their cookie decorating tomorrow.
Pancake Tuesday has been moved to Tuesday, March 5th. **Aftercare invoices have been sent out. Please pay your invoice by Friday, February 15th to avoid interest charges**
**Please do not order lunch on the following days – February 20th(second ski trip), March 7th (third ski day) and March 27th (Legislative Assembly field trip).**
It seems as though the cold and snowy weather is here to stay. Please ensure that students are sent to school with proper outdoor gear - winter coats, hats, mitts, winter boots, scarves, etc. Students will not be allowed to stay in at recess if they are not dressed accordingly. I thank you for your support.

Inquiry into Language
Today in language students continued to work on their literature circle roles. If it was not completed in class today it is for homework, due tomorrow as that is when we will have our first circle meeting.
Inquiry into Mathematics
Today in math we explored triangles, rectangles and parallelograms. We learned that to find the area of a triangle we have to use the formula A= b x h / 2. We learned that we can find the area of a triangle within a rectangle, and to do that we must find the base and height. Remember when drawing your dotted line in, it must be the full height of the rectangle. The formula is A= b x h. Similar to the rectangle, to find the area of a parallelogram we simply split the parallelogram from either of the corners then follow the formula A= b x h. Please see below for more details.
Points to remember:
The perimeter is the outside of a figure. For any polygon, you can find the perimeter by adding the side lengths. When finding the perimeter of an parallelogram, we can use a formula of P = (l + w) x 2! **To change mm to cm you will need to divide by 10 – move the decimal one spot to the left. For example, 108 mm would become 10.8 cm.**
To find the perimeter of a rectangle, we use the following formula – P = (l + w) x 2. To find the area of a rectangle, we use the formula – A = l x w. Don’t forget that when you convert a measure of area from square metres to square centimetres, each dimension is multiplied by 100, so the area is multiplied by 100 x 100, or 10, 000.
Unit of Inquiry
Today in UOI we took some time to review what students worked on yesterday at home. In groups students talked about what they came up with for the 3 parties (liberal, conservative and NDP) then created a visual to show what they have learned. Next we read about the Canadian charter of rights and freedom and completed an activity sheet.
'A' shared some action about the Mayor's throughout the GTA
