A note regarding Caribou Math Contest - The next Caribou contest will take place on Wednesday February 13th, 2019. Please arrive at 7:15 am for a 7:30 am start. You will have one hour to complete the test. Bring your own device. Ensure your device is full charged. Inquiry into Language
Today we began our literature circles. I have placed students in their literature groups. Each week students will read the given chapters and have a specific role that they will take on for that week (summariser, literacy critic and word wizard). Some groups will have two students with the same role, and some groups will only have one. Students have a booklet that they will complete for the next three weeks and circle meetings will either be due on Thursday or Friday. Regarding spelling, we will have our spelling test on Thursday as it is a PA Day on Friday (No school).
Literature circle groups:
Group 1: Sofia, Daniel, Sethumi, Ali, Vanshi
Group 2: Aamna, Shane, Neel, Sophia, Charlie
Group 3: Marcus, Peeya, Yashmeen, Jaiden, Emaan, Pooshne
Inquiry into Mathematics
Today in math we learned how to find the area of a parallelogram. We learned that the area of a parallelogram is the inside of the figure. To find the area of a parallelogram we must follow the formula of A= b (base) x h (height). The base is any of the side of the parallelogram and the height is the length of a line segment that joins the parallel sides and is perpendicular to the base. To find the base and the height you must count the number of square units there are on the base and on the height and multiply them.
Unit of Inquiry
Today in UOI we completed some of the activities we were unable to get to last week due to the ice day. Students had to research and find out information about certain people in the government and what they do (senator, cabinet, etc.). Today we did activities about how everything is divided in the senate, the house of commons and the legislative assembly. Students also learned about the people in politics and how does a bill become a law. Students started a cut a paste activity in the order that a bill becomes a law.
