I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving weekend!
Tomorrow is Day 6. Please bring gym clothes to school. Students are now being bussed to the Athletic centre. I will begin mid report phone calls/ emails tomorrow.
Inquiry into Technology
Today students practiced q&y, p&t, v&m, C&(,), x&(.), v&/ on the typing club. By practicing typing, this will help benefit students with forthcoming projects and assignments.
We love typing!
Inquiry into Math
Today we learned about number patterns. We also learned what a term and recursive pattern is. A term is what your answer equals. For example 2 x 2 = 4. 4 is your new term for your equation. To find a recursive pattern you must apply the pattern rule to the previous term. After our lesson students worked on questions 1,2 and 4 in their textbooks. Lesson 2 in their MMS doutangs is for homework due tomorrow.
For example:
Pattern rule: Start at 7. Multiply by 2, then add 1 each time. Write the next 3 terms.
7 x 2 + 1 = 15
15 x 2 + 1= 31
31 x 2 + 1 = 63
Examples of recursive patterns
Working hard in the textbook

Caribou Math Contest is an online mathematics contest that is held 6 times per year. Last year we did a trial run with a few students from Grade 6 and above. This year we are going to offer it to students in Grades 3 and up. This is something that will be done on a student’s own time. This will not be a focus of our math program. That being said, Dr. Kaur and Mr. Lee-Guide have offered to run a math club on Wednesday morning beginning at 8:00 AM for those who are interested – the math club has begun. There is a $15 annual fee that must be paid online at registration and the test times begin at 7:15 AM. Committed students will write the tests on:
Wednesday, October 17th, 2018
